Q: Will my child actually be driving six hours "behind-the-wheel" with Pitner Driving School or will they be watching other students from the backseat?

A: Each student at Pitner Driving School, Inc. receives a full six hours of "behind-the-wheel" driving.  We have never substituted back seat observation nor computer simulation for actual driving time with a state certified instructor.

Q: Will my child receive a teenage insurance discount upon successfully completing the course at Pitner Driving School, Inc.?

A: Pitner Driving School, Inc. meets all the criteria for the teenage discount if your insurance company offers it. Some insurance companies do not give the discount at all. Others will not accept anything less than the full blown course consisting of thirty classroom hours and six driving hours that are offered by Pitner Driving School, Inc.

Q: Upon completion of the course, will my child be exempt from taking tests at the highway patrol station for their driver's license?

A: The instructors at Pitner Driving School are approved third party testers for the Tennessee Department of Traffic Safety.  This means that if a student resides in Tennessee and scores an 80% or better on the DOTS written test, then the instructor may waive the written part for the learner's permit.  The student is still required to show proper identification and to take the vision test at a highway patrol station.

If a student already holds a Tennessee learner's permit and is at least 15 years and 6 months of age, then the instructor may waive the road test if he deems that the student is "reasonably safe." The instructor reserves the right to make this decision after carefully evaluating the student's driving performance. Be aware that the DOTS may randomly select applicants with waivers to retest at the patrol stations.
