Since 1979, Pitner Driving School, Inc. has set
the standard for teenage defensive driving programs in the Memphis
area. Our classroom sessions run for two weeks Monday through Friday
for three hours a day. After completing the classroom, each student
receives six hours of actual behind-the-wheel driving time with
a state certified instructor.
Defensive driving is our theme in the classroom.
Students are taught the laws from the Tennessee Driver Handbook.
Units on driving under the influence, safety belt usage, and strategies
for dealing with peer pressure are included along with other pertinent
topics and guest speakers.
The driving instruction follows the two weeks of
classroom. The classes are limited to ensure that each student
receives a full six hours of actual driving time. Since our inception
in 1979, we have never cut corners and expenses by substituting
backseat observation nor computer simulation for actual driving
time. There are no adequate substitutes for real traffic. Each
student will make a series of right turns, left turns, lane changes,
and left turns against traffic. Most students will practice merging
onto the interstate. Students will also learn to parallel park,
to park straight, and proper backing techniques on our parking
range.
If
a student qualifies, we may waive part of the driver's license test.
Please see our FAQ page about third party
testing. Students will also receive an insurance discount certificate
along with an evaluation sheet so that parents can review their
driving strengths and weaknesses.
With
our eleven locations, we have a time and place convenient for you.

Most
classes are offered after school and are open to students from any
school. A student who takes the course at a high school location
may be eligible for 1/2 credit toward high school graduation. You
may ask the instructor for details. Please check our School
Year Classes page for specific dates. |
